The history of the ancient buildings, constructions and the people related to it in a walk through the city center.
You will enjoy a tour to places of historical and architectural heritage of Jerusalem, in the center of the city, you will see houses preserved from the previous centuries, since the days of the Ottoman Empire, and other important buildings. I will tell the history of these places and the people whose lives are linked to them.
Long ago, when the Ottoman Empire ruled half of the world, poor and rich Jews bought land in the Holy Land. Some from their own savings, while others took a long-term loan. Drained swamps, built houses, roads, defended themselves against thieves. Their new houses they called “Nachlaot” (estates). Now these houses are the center of the city.
Itinerary
I’ll show you neighborhoods from the 19th century, which have survived the Bukhara Orphanage, the Synagogue of the Jewish resistance fighters, houses of rabbis and the birthplace of the second president of Israel – Yitzhak Navon. You will see ancient wells and ancient eucalyptus trees, synagogues and cultural centers. And finally we will visit the famous market of Mahane Yehuda – the oldest market of the country founded in 1887.
In the days of the Hanukkah holiday there is the possibility of an evening tour to admire the ancient houses, flooded with light.
In the days of the Sukkot holiday (literally Feast of Booths): we’ll see different kinds of sukkah (a temporary dwelling). We’ll see the Market of the four species and we’ll go behind the customs of various ethnic groups. Why celebrate this holiday? How to build a sukkah? What is its size and its shape? Is there a difference between the various ethnic groups in the holiday customs?
