PARK AND RIDE SHUTTLES TO THE OLD CITY - INEXPENSIVE PARKING AT THE FIRST STATION PARKING LOT, AND FREE TRAVEL TO THE OLD CITY
23.03.2015Tourists and visitors heading for the Old City religious, historical and cultural sites this Passover and through the summer can easily reach their destinations using the park and ride shuttles from the First Station parking lot. It should be noted that the Jaffa Gate entrance is closed to private vehicles and there is significant traffic and parking congestion around the Mamilla Mall. In addition, the challenging topography of the Old City can make it difficult for some to reach the Western Wall on foot from Jaffa Gate.
As part of the new service, visitors are invited to park at the First Station parking lot for a daily rate of just 17.10 shekels and travel for free to and from Dung Gate on the special shuttle service, “Footloose to The Old City.”
“Footloose to The Old City” makes it easy to visit these major sites:
- The Western Wall Plaza Complex and the area around Dung Gate: The Temple Mount, The Western Wall, The Western Wall Heritage Foundation and Tunnels, The Jerusalem Archaeological Park Davidson Center, The Ophal Archaeological Park, The City of David
- Mount Zion and its many attractions: King David’s’ Tomb, The Last Supper Room, The Dormition Abbey
- The Jewish Quarter and its many attractions: The Hurva Synagogue, The Burnt House of Kathros, The Herodian Quarter, Wohl Museum of Archaeology, The Cardo, The Isaac Kaplan Old Yishuv Court Museum, The Ariel Center for Jerusalem in the First Temple Period, Yad Ben Zvi, The Rabban Yohanan Ben Zakai Four Sephardi Synagogues, The Temple Institute
How to Get There
From the entrance to Jerusalem, just follow the wings – the signs will lead you to the parking lot at the First Station and 200 parking spots offered at the reduced daily rate. Another option is to use a navigation application like Waze with key words such as “Old City,” “Western Wall,” “First Station,” and “Footloose Old City.”
The shuttle runs Sunday through Thursday. On Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday it runs from 08:00 to 20:00; and on Monday and Thursday from 07:00 to 20:00.
The shuttle runs every 20 minutes, and once in 40 minutes there is a vehicle equipped for the handicapped.
On Fridays the shuttle runs until an hour before the Sabbath, and on Saturday nights from an hour after the Sabbath until midnight.
The schedule may change on holidays and passengers are advised to check with the Municipal Hotline: 106.
Up-to-date information is available on Jerusalem’s official tourism website, itraveljerusalem.com, on the Jerusalem Municipality website, and from the Jerusalem Municipal Hotline: 106. (If you’re calling from outside Jerusalem: 02-531-4600.)
While you wait: The “Footloose to The Old City” shuttle invites you to take photographs with the wings and with other surprises, and to use Instagram to post the photos to the itravelJerusalem page.
The initiative is a collaborative effort from the Ministry for Jerusalem and the Diaspora, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Jerusalem Development Authority, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, East Jerusalem Development Ltd., and Jerusalem’s official tourism website itravelJerusalem.com
